New Deal/WPA Art in Ashburn, Georgia

Post Office New Deal Artwork

Most of the post office works of art were funded under the Treasury Department's Section commissions. Those works that were created using TRAP funds are so indicated. Although the WPA funded the construction of post office buildings, the artwork was not WPA but was usually produced under the Section or TRAP programs. Unless indicated, works of art are located in the US Post Office building.

According to the Ashburn Library, there was a New Deal mural painted prior to the "sculpture" that is listed in most sources, but it was returned to Washington, DC (see article above). At this time, there is no artwork in the Ashburn Post Office and no one knows anything about a sculpture, much less the mural. Information and article submitted by Jimmy Emerson.
