New Deal Art in Reedsburg, WI


This 5'x 12-1/2' oil on canvas mural is in the lobby of the Post Office. Titled "Dairy Farming" by Richard Jansen, it was installed in 1940.

Artist Biography:
Richard Jansen was born in Milwaukee, WI in 1910. He also did a mural for the Sauk Centre, MN Post Office entitled, "Threshing Wheat" and for the Lincolnton, NC Post Office entitled, "Threshing Grain." He studied at the Layton School of Art and first exhibited at the Chicago Art Institute in 1934. He exhibited all over WI, in Buffalo, NY, the New York World's Fair and in Key West, FL as a WPA artist. His paintings are displayed in numerious WI museums.
