Evanston, Illinois
Evanston, Illinois, located north of Chicago, was founded in 1863. It has been and continues to be a community of schools, churches, and patrons of the arts. It was also the home of Dr. Frederick Nichols, a prominent educator and a great supporter of the Federal Art Program of the '30's and '40's. Much of the W.P.A.-era artwork has disappeared from the Evanston public buildings. However, recent efforts at discovery and preservation have been made.
